SBI eyeing acquisitions : भारतीय स्टेट बैंक की अधिग्रहण पर नज़र : 25th January

English Translation:
SBI is looking for acquisitions in the South East Asia, particularly in Indonesia, bolstered by the Indian companies keenness of step up operations there. According to SBI Deputy Managing Director and Group Executive (International Banking) Pratip Chaudhuri, "Because of India joining Asean, there could be greater synergies...So we are looking at Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines,". Moreover, he said that the top priority will be to look at the possibility of acquisition in Indonesia "then Thailand and then possibly the Philippines." He said that Indonesia has huge reserves of coal as well as oil and many Indian companies are looking for acquisitions there, which makes it a good case to acquire another bank. Coal India Ltd, NTPC, NALCO and Mercator Lines are reported to be eyeing acquisition of coal assets in Indonesia। SBI has already acquired PT Bank IndoMonex in Indonesia in 2006 which was called as SBI Indonesia and has seven branches currently.
