English Translation:

India’s food inflation continued its downward journey for second consecutive week during the week-ended March 19 after showing an unexpected increase couple of weeks ago. However, after showing convincing decline throughout the month of February, the downside now is coming mainly from the base effect, indicating prices are not actually going down as expected in wake of strong growth in farm output. According to the data released by the ministry of commerce and industry on Thursday, food price index rose 9.18% on annual basis during week-ended March 26, as compared with 9.50% recorded in the previous week. However, the food prices index jumped by 0.45% to 179.5 from 178.7 during the previous week, indicating the decline in annual inflation was mainly due to a high base effect from last year.
