English Translation:

Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in the country have increased by strong 7.4% in March 2011 to touch 5.07 lakh, as compared with 4.72 lakh foreigners visiting the country in same month a year ago. Further, the growth has not come on a low base like what was the case during most months in last year. This is reflected in the fact that FTAs had increased by 6.7% in March 2010 as well compared with March 2009. Looking at the cumulative figures, during the January-March 2011 period, FTAs in the country rose 11.1% to 17.37 lakh, from 15.63 lakh in the comparable period of the previous year. The growth in tourist arrivals in January-March 2010 was 10.6% year-on-year, thus again pre-empting any significant role of base effect in boosting tourist numbers.
