English Translation:

Axis Bank, in order to set up a subsidiary in UK, has sought approval of the government and eye to become the second Indian private sector bank after ICICI Bank to have a British arm. However, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has already given its nod to a proposal in this regard. As per the official from the ministry, the bank has bagged the nod from RBI as well as commerce ministry, but the approval from the ministry of external affairs (MEA) is pending and the final call will be taken by the finance minister once MEA clears the deck. The bank is also eyeing at a strategic alliance with a UK-based bank in order to boosts its operations. The sources said that the bank is eyeing to tap the Indian diaspora and provide cross-border loans to Indian companies. Meanwhile Axis Bank is looking forward for over seas expansion in the countries like UK, West Asia and Sri Lanka. The bank is also eyeing to increase its presence in newer segments like auto loan. Moreover, Axis Bank is targeting to increase the retail portfolio of its lending.
