State Bank of India is quite bullish for the next fiscal as the Country''s largest lender plans to open 1,000 more branches in the next financial year, thus taking its total branch network to more than 13,000. SBI in a statement said that 1,000 branches was opened by the bank during this year and plans to open more than 1,000 branches next year. SBI currently has 12,448 branches and more than 21,000 ATMs. The bank targets to enhance the number of ATMs to 25,000 by March end. SBI in this fiscal has opened 1,000 branches and 10,000 ATM. Of the 1,000 branches, 600 were opened in rural and semi-urban areas. SBI during 2010-11 plans to hire over 27,000 people across its various divisions. Moreover, the bank also plans to recruit 20,000-22,000 people at the clerical posts while 5,500 people at the probationary officer level. Meanwhile, SBI plans to deploy 2,000 probationary officers in rural areas and this is a part of its strategy to enhance focus on rural operations.
