The Hyderabad unit of Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) achieved a milestone as this unit crossed the milestone of Rs 5,000 crore turnover during 2009-10 fiscal. According to R Krishnan, in-charge general manager, this was despite the recession as well as stiff international competition and critical input constraints. The unit achieved a turnover of Rs 5,004 crore for the year as against Rs 4,149 crore last year, and this was the highest-ever and thus registering a growth of 21 per cent over last year. Moreover, the units'' profit before tax surged 24 per cent to Rs 930 crore as against Rs 753 crore in 2008-09. Meanwhile, the unit is targeting a growth of 33 per cent in turnover to Rs 6,651 crore for the year 2010-11. He said that the company was gearing up for the capacity expansion with Rs 250 crore of investment in 2010-11. However, the company had invested about Rs 200 crore during 2009-10. Meanwhile, the unit had Rs 15,264 crore of order book as of March end, a growth of 68 per cent as compared to the previous year.
