English Translation:
NTPC will examine the feasibility of setting up a coal based power plant in Bangladesh. This is as part of the enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, a high-level NTPC technical team would be visiting Bangladesh. This is in order to explore the possibility of setting up the plant which could be in the region of 500-1,000 MW. Under the initial plan, power generated from the plant will be evacuated to India through a transmission network to be developed by the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL). Moreover, NTPC and the Bangladesh Power Development Board will jointly develop the project. Details relating to the equity pattern are being worked out and it is expected that NTPC would get the management control besides 49% stake in the power plant. The proposed plant will be fired by imported coal.
