The pepper futures, which witnessed high volatility yesterday surged due to good buying support amid limited supply. The prices firmed up in the afternoon session and closed above the previous closing. On NCDEX, the April contract surged by Rs 147 to close at Rs 15,410 a quintal. Moreover, the May and June also soared by Rs 154 and Rs 147 respectively to Rs 15,727 and Rs 15,980 a quintal. The total turnover on NCDEX rose by 1,721 tonnes to 9,332 tonnes. The total open interest increased by 461 tonnes to 12,423 tonnes. The April open interest fell by 218 tonnes to 3,258 tonnes while of May and June grew by 641 tonnes and 50 tonnes. However, there was good switching over to nearby position. The spot prices in tandem with the futures market trend and good buying support rose by Rs 100 a quintal to close at Rs 14,700 (ungarbled) and Rs 15,200 (MG 1).
