Sugar Production Rises By 13% In October-March Period : अक्टूबर - मार्च की अवधि में चीनी के उत्पादन मे 13% से वृद्धि : 04-04-12

सरकार और चीनी उत्पादकों के लिए अच्छी खबर है देश में कुल चीनी उत्पादन मे, 31 मार्च (अक्टूबर - मार्च 2011-12 की अवधि) मे 23.3 मिलियन टन (एमटी) के आसपास खड़ा था, जोकि पिछले वर्ष की तुलना मे13% अधिक है और जहा यह 20.45 लाख टन था। इंडियन शुगर मिल्स एसोसिएशन (आईएसएमए) के अनुसार चीनी उत्पादन सितंबर 2012 को समाप्त वर्ष मे 26 लाख टन के अपने प्रारंभिक अनुमानों से अधिक होने की संभावना है। संघ को उम्मीद है कि देश भर में बुवाई के मौजूदा रुझान के अनुसार, 2012-13 सीजन में चीनी उत्पादन घरेलू आवश्यकता से अधिक होगा और देश के लिए अगले साल एक शुद्ध निर्यातक भी बना रह सकता है। कर्नाटक, तीसरा सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक ने 3.5 लाख मिलियन टन का उत्पादन किया, जोकि लगभग पिछले वर्ष की तुलना मे 5 लाख टन से अधिक है।

As per the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), output in the sugar year-ending September 2012 is likely to exceed its initial projections of 26 mt. The association expects that as per current trend of sowing all over the country, sugar production in 2012-13 season will be higher than the domestic requirement and the country may continue to remain a net exporter next year, too. Karnataka, the third largest producer has produced 3.5 mt, about 5 lakh tonnes more than last year.

The government has allowed exports of additional 1 million tonnes of sugar. The decision to allow exports was taken by an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. The decision will also help domestic mills to clear mounting sugarcane arrears to farmers that have reached Rs 8,409 crore. India is the second largest producer and the world’s largest consumer of sugar. But it is a sector which is highly regulated by the government. The government had allowed 2 million tonnes of sugar exports in the 2011-12 marketing year in two equal tranches, as the country’s sugar output was all set to exceed domestic consumption.
