English Translation:

India’s central bank has said in a study that having a single countrywide consumer price index (CPI) would be better from point of view of conduct of the monetary policy as compared to the wholesale price index (WPI) being used now. The central bank, while watches all the price indices, relies primarily on the WPI as the there are four different CPIs and none of them cover the countrywide price trend. Also, as measured presently, the CPIs have a much greater time lag, running to close to two months in some of the indices, which makes it difficult to use them for monetary policy purposes.
