English Translation:
Gold prices plummeted around a percent on Monday, after registering gains of around four percent in the previous week as market participants took some profits off the table after ratings agency Standard & Poor's threatened the Eurozone with sweeping downgrades if it fails to act on the debt crisis. The yellow metal prices also got undermined by the rebound in American greenback against the euro which made the dollar denominated bullion costlier for holders of other currencies.
Gold prices for February delivery plunged $16.80 or 1% to settle at $1,734.50 an ounce after trading as high as $1,758.80 and as low as $1,732.20 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, whereas the spot gold prices sank 1.3% to $1,723.90 an ounce.
