While the surge in yellow metal prices was also underpinned amid speculations that the US may extend monetary easing measures to support the ailing US economy. Gold futures for February delivery advanced 0.7% at $1,416.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, whereas Spot gold rose 80 cents to $1,419 an ounce.
