भारतीय प्याज की कीमतें एक अप्रत्याशित गति से आसमान छू रही है और यह पिछले कुछ दिनों में थोक बाजारों में अधिक से अधिक 75 रूपये प्रति किलो को भी पार कर चुका है। केंद्रीय कृषि मंत्री, शरद पवार को विश्वास है, प्याज की कीमतों में एक और तीन सप्ताह के लिए लंबे समय तक उच्च रहने की संभावना है। कमोडिटी की कीमतों तंग आपूर्ति की वजह से इस स्तर की वृद्धि हुई है और भारत महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात और दक्षिण भारत में प्याज उत्पादक क्षेत्रों में बिन मौसम की बारिश के कारण प्याज की एक गंभीर कमी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। प्रमुख कमी अलग खड़े फसल के एक हिस्से के तबाह होने से हुई है। सरकार अंत में उड़नेवाला प्याज की कीमतों में नोट कर लिया है और 15 जनवरी तक प्याज के निर्यात को निलंबित करने का फैसला।

English Translation:

Indian onion prices have skyrocketed at an unexpected pace as it has more than doubled over the past few days to even cross Rs 75 a kg in some wholesale markets. And if the Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar is to be believed, prices of onions are likely to remain high for another three long weeks. The commodity prices have surged to this level because of tight supplies as India is facing a severe crunch of onions due to unseasonal rains in the onion-producing areas in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Southern India. Apart from this a chunk of the standing crop too got ruined which has resulted in the major shortfall. The government has finally taken note of the soaring onion prices and decided to suspend onion exports till January 15.
