भारत अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष (आईएमएफ) द्वारा जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार दुनिया में तीसरी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था बनने के लिए क्रय शक्ति समता (पीपीपी) के संदर्भ में जापान को पार कर गया है।

पीपीपी संदर्भ में भारत का सकल घरेलू उत्पाद 2011 में सीमांत रूप से जापान 4.44 खरब डॉलर से अधिक, 4.46 ट्रिलियन डॉलर पर खड़ा रहा, जिसके स्वरुप भारत संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका और चीन के बाद तीसरी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था बना रहा है।

विश्व के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) के पीपीपी संदर्भ में भारत की हिस्सेदारी 2011 के लिए जापान के 5.63% विरुद्ध 5.65% पर खड़ी रही। इस अंतराल की 2017 तक और बढने की उम्मीद जताई गयी है।

पाँच वर्षों में, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष का अनुमान है कि पीपीपी संदर्भ में भारत के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद के हिस्से में जापान के 4.8% की तुलना में 8.09% की वृद्धि होगी।

India Surpasses Japan To Become Third Largest Economy In Terms Of PPP: IMF

India has surpassed Japan to become the third largest economy in the world in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP), as per data released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). India's gross domestic product in PPP terms stood at $4.46 trillion in 2011, marginally higher than Japan's $4.44 trillion, making it the third-biggest economy after the United States and China.

India's share in world GDP in terms of PPP stood at 5.65% in 2011 against Japan's 5.63%, with the gap expected to widen significantly by 2017. In five years, the IMF estimates the share of India's GDP in PPP terms would grow to 8.09% compared with 4.8% for Japan.
