English Translation:

The Indian rupee on Tuesday depreciated by 22 paise to 48.02 against the US dollar in early trade on the back of expectations of more capital outflows as well as dollar demand from importers. Also, the gaining of dollar against other currencies weighed on the Indian rupee.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the rupee turned weak and dipped by 22 paise to 48.02 a dollar over the previous close. The rupee had gained 3.50 paisa at 47.8050/8150 against the US currency in Monday''s trade.

The Indian rupee on July 30 fell by 28 paise to a one-week low against the dollar in early trade due to month-end dollar demand from importers as well as firmness in the US currency against major Asian currencies. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the rupee was quoted at 48.58 a dollar, a loss of 28 paise over the previous close. The rupee on July 29 dropped 21 paise to close at 48.30/31. Moreover, the expectations of capital outflows from weak stock markets also put some pressure on the domestic unit.

The rupee on Wednesday strengthened by 33 paise to 48.63/64 against the dollar on the back of firm equity market that raises the hopes of fresh capital inflows amid a weak US currency overseas. The rupee moved in a range of 48.63 and 48.87 during the day at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market after resuming firm at 48.81/84 a dollar against its last close of 48.96/98 a dollar.

The forex dealers said that the rupee continued to draw support from a sharp rally in local stocks and weakness in the dollar in global markets. The Indian benchmark Sensex yesterday surged by 400 points or 2.28 per cent.

The rupee is also expected to remain under pressure due to monthly dollar demand from oil refiners.
